Dunia: The North Wood - Beta 2.0 Release
Dunia: The North Wood » Devlog
It's been over a year since the original (and frankly undercooked) release of the Dunia: The North Wood Beta, since then, however, we've been hard at work, and now the game has roughly 10-20x the amount of content compared to what we originally put out.
The full list of additions and updates are below, but in summery, we improved everything.
Additions:
-World Level:
- The amount of enemies that spawn in each level is affected by the number of enemies killed in the previous level (This includes some bosses).
- Some World Levels are determined by Reputation, such as Green's Base
-Intro Questionnaire:
- Upon starting a New Game (and after a brief camera transition) players are now given some background story on Aeydrien, as well as several questions whose answers determine some of her personality traits, starting stats, and starting Reputations.
- Starting Reputations determine which District Aeydrien is assigned to.
-Masters' Labs, The Emergency Train Station, The MiniMalg Racer & Level Design:
- The first level has been entirely redesigned.
- A second, third, fourth, and fifth level have been added, as well as the Emergency Train Station
- Green's Base has been entirely redesigned.
- The MiniMalg Racer and The Train were added as interactable entities in the Train Station, as well as a hidden achievement item.
- Bosses affected by World Level spawn in Levels 3, 4, and 5.
- Chest and MiniNyims have been scattered throughout each level.
- Minor Puzzles, like Sword Buttons and Statue Rotating Puzzles were added.
-Weapon Proficiency, Quick Items & Clothing Levels:
- There are (for right now) 3 weapon proficiencies, Hand-2-Hand: Moira, Sword: Slab, and Sword: Hero. XP is acquired through Killing or KOing enemies with each style. Each level up increases damage and attack speed, with some level ups also unlocking attacks themselves (such as LVL 2 Hand-2-Hand: Moira unlocking the Salt Gun)
- From the start players have a 360 degree Blocking ability and can do heavy attacks with their Swordbreaker.
- Both Quick Items and Clothing Pieces can now be leveled up various times using materials, such as Nyim Dust, to increase their efficiency.
- Clothing items that are upgraded change visually on top of their stat changes.
-The Codex, Weapons and Clothing Menus:
- The Codex is easier to navigate, added User Manual, Statistics, Achievements, and various other bits of information about characters, places and things.
- Achievements are tracked in the Codex, can be deleted (along with settings) in the options menu, and count across multiple playthroughs.
- Statistics show information such as how many lamps have been stolen, and what rank was acquired during each Episode.
- The User Manual shows important information on how to control Aeydrien, as well as info on parts of the game that may not be readily obvious.
- The Weapons and Clothing Menus were added to the Clothing/Weapons sub menu.
- In the Weapons Menu players are able to see every stat about their weapons, fists, and ranged weapon, such as how much damage they do, as well as certain insights Aeydrien may have about the style.
- In the Clothing menu players are able to see every stat about their clothing, such as how much each piece weighs, or how using it might affect Reputation gain/loss.
-Weapon Health:
- Aeydrien's swords can now break.
- If broken while blocking, the player's defenses will be blown open.
- If broken when picking up after a Slam attack, half the sword will be left in the ground.
- Sword Health is replenished at Repair Stations and Swordbreaker Upgraders,, but a broken sword can still be used for offense.
-Unlimiter Heat:
- When using the Unlimiter a Heat Bar will now appear and fill up depending on how many Unlimiter Multipliers are active, deactivating the Unlimiter when it reaches full.
-Player & Enemy Weight:
- Both players and enemies now have an invisible stat called Weight which determines if they'll stagger from an attack.
- Weight is affected by clothing, and certain intro starting choices.
-Enemy NPC AI:
- Brawlers are generally smarter, and will attack players faster if they attempt to heal mid fight.
- Chaser-Gunners were added, which will chase a player until close enough, and then fire.
- Tanks were added, which will wait for the player to approach before engaging, and have the capacity to dodge oncoming attacks.
- The number of enemies that spawn are affected by World Level.
- Bosses are the only enemies that HAVE to be defeated.
- Most enemies, except bosses, will attempt to Shoo the player away before engaging.
-Ground Slope Walk Speed:
- Going up or down a slope affects how slow or fast Aeydrien can walk/run.
-First Death, Respawn & Repair Stations:
- Dying for the first time will have players transported to the NULL, where their conversation with the person there is affected by certain intro questionnaire choices.
- Upon death players drop a floating doll that contains their Salt, which disappears if players die again, or quit out before reacquiring it.
- The last Repair Station players interact with will be their new spawn point
- At Repair Stations players can upgrade their clothing, quick items, and Teleport between previously interacted with Repair Stations.
-Controller Rumble:
- Various things such as explosions, landing, or an attack recoiling will now cause controller rumble which can be toggled in the Options Menu.
-The Concept Gallery:
- Hidden in the main menu is an Art Concept Museum that can be wandered around in 1st person, and has the same radio settings as what's in the main menu.
-Special Items & Camera Mode:
- The Special Items Menu has been added to Quick Items
- After purchasing it from Red's Store players have access to the BANG Card, which allows them to 'romance' adult characters around the North Wood.
- A Beta Camera mode has been added that allows for basic screenshots to be taken.
-New Options:
- The Misc Options Menu was added, letting players toggle Tutorials, the numbers over health bars, lock on to another enemy after killing the one they're locked onto, and Holiday Items.
- The ability to toggle Controller Rumble was added to the Controls menu.
- The ability to toggle Subtitles was added to the Audio Menu.
-State Loans:
- For things such as Health Items players are able to go into negative digits up to -10,000 Salt.
Fixes:
-New Lighting Methods:
- Inside and Outside areas lighting methods have been drastically changed, more things cast shadows, and lighting fidelity has been improved.

- From the Main Menu players can start a New Game, Load an old game, go to the aforementioned options Menu or exit (Players can also exit via the options menu).
- Starting a New Game initiates a brief cutscene.
- Loading causes a camera transition that changes depending on Episode.

- The Concept Gallery can be found in the Options Menu/Main Menu Alleyway
- The radio playing the intro music can now be turned off entirely, or have its music changed to most of the game's soundtrack

- Certain parts of Aeydrien's clothing is affected by Unlimiter activation.
- Blue Unlimiter pips now reduce damage sustained instead of increase health.

- Damage Popup numbers now appear over an enemy instead of popping up next to their names on their HP bars.
- Boss + Multi Boss bars were added for when encountering such enemies.
- Every menu now has full controller support.
- Certain Meds now have a timer that appears along with their activation to indicate how long until they wear off.
-Chests & Enemy Item Drops:
- Chests now open with an explosion of confetti
